Smells of the newsroom

You can always tell when the photographer returns from covering a midsummer grass fire. It smells like a night around a bonfire at the beach.

I call it the sweet smell of spot news. It’s an intoxicating aroma that has the scent of sirens and fire truck exhaust. It is a lot better than the smell of shooting scenes, which are more like puke and urine.

My wife who hates to camp also dislikes the smell we bring home - mmmm, campfire smoke. I am sure Glenn was plenty smelly in the office after soaking up the smoke.
